Off-Grid Home Construction: Step-by-Step Progress and Insights

Introduction

Lumber is being delivered today, cuz you know the world is beautiful, so beautiful, and I just can’t hide how I feel about it. Nothing can take that away cuz it makes the world so beautiful.

We did get the inside forms on this wall and that one right there, so that’s a good start. Everything is lining up perfectly, the measurements are good. We’ve got 8-inch stem walls, and the inspector is here. Wish us so much luck, cuz you know the world is beautiful, so beautiful.

Planning and Preparation

We’re doing the last section at the bottom, tired, you know the world is beautiful. Our plan: we got a ladder on each side, all the floor joists right here. We’re going to use the bulldozer bucket, lift them up from the center, have a person on each side setting them in place, nailing them onto the next one, onto the next one.

As soon as we get three or four up there, we’ll probably put a sheet of OSB so we can go around up there and walk. Then just so on and so forth. It’s repetitive; I think we have 35 of them to do.

Construction Progress

Thanks, this is for the stairs. Good, yeah, looks great. Hang on, hang on, hang on.

I really need to tell you something cuz I feel alone in a room surrounded by people. I want to know if you feel out on the roof with me.

Everything is going great. Every word feels transparent and real. Street lights right next to the skyline. Working together, making progress, everything is all right.

A little foone, ball boy completely out. Oh my goodness, that’s probably a good view up here. Ready, go. Well, you made it through.

Installing Doors and Interior

Taking the door off so we can get the refrigerator in.

I like the wood on the gray; it looks really good, a good contrast. Weight support, finished tasks, the switches coming along. Handles up, everything is coming together like a puzzle.

Finishing Touches

I can just see so many monster trucks going down this ramp. The color is supposed to be baby blue; I thought it would be darker, but I hope it turns out good.

Off-Grid Living Journey

We moved off-grid about two years ago, and this is the progress of our house thus far. We have a lot of previous work about building utilities and the life of living off-grid.

We owe our success to friends and family who helped us get to this point. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
